OUR PROCESS
Introduction Meeting & Proposal
Before we begin, we like to spend some time with our clients to understand the scope of their project, location, size, budget and style. All of these factors are taken into account to develop a custom proposal for each individual client. Our proposal will establish a clear outline of the project, all of your wants and needs and fixed price quote. We’ll outline the details of the project including what we will need from you. Although pricing varies based on several factors, a typical custom design will cost between $2 and $4 per square foot of habitable space.
Initial Discovery Session
We sit with our clients (in person or virtually) and provide them the opportunity to share their dreams, their likes and dislikes, photos, thoughts, sketches and examples of the types of homes they like. This is not a formal process, so cutouts, napkin sketches and magazine tear outs are welcome. But we don’t stop there. One of the most critical aspects of a design is to ensure that it fits with our client’s lifestyle. We spend time through our RYR lifestyle assessment to gain critical insight in how you will ‘live’ in your new home. This stage is extremely iterative so we’ll share and exchange ideas, concepts and even preliminary sketches until we have mutual alignment on the direction of floor layouts and elevations.

Agreement, Deposit & Deliverables
Once you are comfortable with our proposal, we ask that you sign our design agreement and provide a deposit of one-third of the total fees. Once we have a signed agreement we’ll begin the exciting process of the design work on your project. Our deliverables will be outlined in detail in our proposal, but most often include design sketches, site plans, floorplans, elevations and if desired, detailed renderings.
Initial Concept
For our initial concept, we will produce sketches and elevations of your design. We will then meet with you (in person or virtually) to present the concept and gain your feedback. Typically, based on your feedback we’ll need to make some minor updates. We plan for two reviews of the initial concept and will require typically 2 to 4 weeks.

Preliminary Design Approval
Once we have finalized and are aligned on the initial concept we will request a formal signoff of the preliminary design. Once signed off, we’ll begin the development of the final construction drawings.

Final Review
Once the final construction drawings are complete, we’ll sit down for our final review meeting. At this stage we will address any minor revisions and produce the Final Drawing Package.
The Final Drawing Package Includes:
Site plan
Foundation plan
Floor Plans
Elevations
Roof framing plan
Floor framing plan
Cross sections
Optional
Electrical schematic
Structural engineering
Lateral engineering
Foundation engineering

Ongoing Support
Our goal is to see the successful completion of your dream project so after we deliver your final drawings, we’ll remain available to you and your contractor if any questions arise.
