NEW GARAGE CONSTRUCTION
Run Your Reno worked with this client to design, plan and execute the construction of this new garage and loft.
RYR developed the initial design and managed all tasks related to initial planning and obtaining a building permit including:
Engineered Truss Drawings and documents
Engineered drawings for floating pad foundation
Drawings for New Garage & Lot Placement
Building Permit Application
Our client also looked to us to manage the selection process for a contractor, so we initiated a Request For Proposal process. RYR created bid packages and selected potential contractors for the project. The responses where reviewed with the client with a recommendation made. A contractor was selected for the project and a project plan developed.
Our client was remote, so they relied on us to ensure necessary materials arrived on time, the contractor adhered to the schedule developed and that the quality of work exceeded our expectations. The project was completed without issue and on time.
KAWARTHA ROOM ADDITION
A family with a large 5 bedroom lake house were looking to improve the usability of their home. The space worked well for the immediate family, but they found they lacked the appropriate space to entertain larger groups.
RYR Custom Designs worked with the client to create a new space that not only complimented the existing home but also created a fantastic new space to relax and entertain. The new ‘Kawartha Room’ is mostly glass to take advantage of the view of the lake and is designed and constructed to be used all four seasons.

COTTAGE RENOVATION & 'LIFT'
The Smith family purchased a lakeside cottage with the plan to make it their retirement home one day. They liked the layout and the character of the home but it lacked the space and amenities that they required. They made the decision to do an extensive renovation including ‘lifting’ the building. RYR Designs worked with the Smiths to transform a quaint cottage into a two storey with a walkout basement. The outside kitchen with a wood burning oven is the center piece and a great space to entertain.
KAWARTHA FAMILY COTTAGE
This family ‘cottage’ contains 6 bedrooms all with dedicated ensuites, a grand kitchen, office on the main floor and over 10,000 sq.ft of habitable space. The clients often entertain large groups so having sufficient space both inside and out was critical. At the same time we needed to ensure that we took full advantage of the views and the west facing frontage. Because of that we needed to maximize the windows on the lakeside and front of the cottage. This combined with tall roof lines, vaulted ceilings create incredible view in every room. The family loves to entertain, so both the Great Room and the Kitchen were areas of focus. But that didn’t stop inside, with a large covered dining area and a sun deck. The design leverages the topography of the lot with a full walkout basement which not only eliminates any feeling of ‘being in a basement’ but also creates a magnificent elevation on the lake side.
OFFGRID CABIN
Working within limitation often drives innovation and one of our most unique designs was for an off grid cabin in North Kawartha. Based on its remote location, power and general conservation considerations where a critical input parameter to the overall design. Efficiency was the key to this design with no waste of space in key or transition areas. Designed specifically for a solar power energy system, this off grid cabin proves that one can live efficiently without compromising the comforts of life.
